The Girl

23 Feb

body numb / too long in the cold

mind blank / senselessness spinning

there like yarn / looping over

icy grip / on the heart

to comprehend / what has occurred

requires humanity / is it

still out there? / to be found

among the threadbare / flaw

of this world’s people / the fragility

of life / a constant reminder

weeping heart / cracked

worn / beyond repair

glass that shatters / too late

cold / comfort

be still

About this poem: Those of you who follow me on Twitter may have already seen my posts about the young girl who was taken from her bedroom, murdered and dumped in a drain behind her home. While any crime of this magnitude is horrific, it is especially horrifying to me because it happened in my little town. We are a town in collective shock and grieving. This poem is my way of trying to make sense of what has happened. It is fragmented, like my thoughts are now. I just can’t comprehend why this had to happen; why a young girl had to die.

A wonderful and powerful poem….which I wish you had not had cause to write…but poets merely portray the world they find or wish that was there…thanks for your sharing.
